Linocut Printing Workshop - 2 Feb 19

On 2nd February I ran my ‘Introduction to linocut printing’ workshop in my York print studio.

Judith, Kirsty, Simon and Mel spent the day in my studio learning how to create a unique simple linocut print. They learnt about the tools and materials needed, how to plan a design, cut the lino and print their design by hand.

In the morning they carved and printed a test print, so that they could experiment and learn about the different techniques.

With my guidance, they then planned their design, transferring this onto the lino block and then carved and printed their design.

They all brought ideas with them on the day and I helped them translate them into lino cut designs. They chose the colours they wanted to use and Mel hand coloured elements in her prints using watercolours.

I loved seeing how everyone’s ideas evolved.

Here’s what they said....

What did you enjoy most about the day?

“Thank you, it’s been a very enjoyable day. I found your relaxed warm style and clear instructions really helpful, supportive and helped me to learn.”

“The pace, meditative quality to the design and cutting”

“It was relieved yet informative. We could go at our own pace and Michelle was there you help at every stage.“

“Relaxed atmosphere. Michelle was approachable and gave clear instructions.”

“The space and time to cut and print, the doing and the meeting the others.“
