Friday 27 June 2025 - Introduction to linocut print workshop

Four fruit and vegetable-themed linocut prints from today’s beginner's linocut workshop. Today was a private booking for a group of four friends, which I always think is a lovely way to spend time with friends. They also made a set of prints for each other. 🥰
Helen B carved a linocut print of carrots and a turnip and printed it in orange. Mo carved a linocut print of wild strawberries and printed a few in green and some in purple. Sue carved a lino print of pumpkins, printing it in orange and green. Helen W carved a linocut print of beetroot, printing it in a deep, reddish-purple.
“Brilliant! Well-paced, easy to follow, creative and lovely, approachable teacher. I’d highly recommend it.”
“Great introduction. Friendly, informative.”
“A relaxing, enjoyable day with everything you need to create a lino print, with friendly support. Highly recommended.”
“Surprising! In a lovely way! Who knew I would go home with such a lovely print! Relaxing learning environment, with great results!”
Saturday 28 June 2025 - Introduction to linocut print workshop

Fabulous linocut prints from Saturday’s linocut workshop. Steve came all the way from Australia as part of his trip to visit family!
Steve created a linocut print of the Three Sisters in the Blue Mountains in Australia based on his sketch. Alex carved a print based on a photo of an old pier on the Northeast Coast. Sarah carved a linocut print of three oyster catchers. She’s planning to hand-colour the beaks and eyes in orange once the oil-based ink is dry. Sarah created a blackberry linocut print based on her sketches.
"The workshop was really clearly and logically structured, with time to think and plan, including making a test print, and everything needed was provided. You were very generous with your encouragement, advice, knowledge and tips, and everything was explained clearly in a wonderfully relaxed and friendly environment. It's really exciting to spend a day in an artist's studio learning to do something new, or relatively new, and to take away a tangible result in the form of your own print. I learnt so much more than I had expected to be able to in a single day."
"Fantastic, informative, really well instructed."
“An immersive, intense, exciting day of learning and practising. A joy from beginning to end.”
“Friendly, good instruction and small group.”
Autumn workshop dates are listed on my website, and they're booking up fast. You can join my summer cancellation waitlist, too.

About the author
Michelle Hughes is a North Yorkshire landscape artist. Much of her work depicts the Yorkshire landscape, including the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, as well as the Yorkshire coast.
Michelle loves exploring the British countryside by bike or on foot, camera in hand, capturing ideas for her next prints. Back in her garden studio, Michelle creates simple but stylised silhouettes based on her photographs and carves these shapes into lino. She hand prints with an etching press, using oil-based inks to create tonal blocks of colour.
Michelle’s original linocut prints are limited editions.
