Inspiration

Hedgehogs often visit my garden, and I love watching them snuffling around for food at dusk. I’ve even made a hedgehog house and feeding station from wood scraps, and they seem very happy to use them!

These garden visitors inspired me to create this autumn hedgehog linocut, surrounded by mushrooms and fallen leaves.

How It's Made

This two-colour linocut print is made using the jigsaw technique. I carve the design into a lino block, then cut it into separate pieces for each colour. I ink each piece individually with oil-based printing inks, fit them together to form the design, and hand-print onto paper.

I re-ink the lino pieces for each print, creating an original, hand-pulled print with subtle variations. I print each one in my garden studio in York, North Yorkshire.
