A hand-printed original linocut of a hare sitting quietly amongst delicate umbellifers, inspired by the wildflowers of the Yorkshire countryside.

Inspiration

Meadow Hare began with photographs I took of wild carrot seed heads growing at the edge of a field. The hare came from a lucky sighting in the Yorkshire Wolds, when I spotted one sitting quietly in a field and managed to photograph it.

I combined the two images to create this stylised hare art print, bringing together the delicate shapes of the umbellifers with the distinctive silhouette of a British hare.

How It’s Made

I created this original linocut print using the jigsaw technique. I carve a single lino block, then cut it into separate pieces for each colour.

I roll oil-based ink onto each piece before carefully fitting them back together. I then lay the paper over the block and hand-print the image using a wooden spoon.
