An original linocut print of a stonechat perched on bracken, hand-printed in rich orange onto soft white paper. Inspired by the distinctive little birds I’ve spotted while walking across the moors and heathlands of Yorkshire and the Lake District.
 
With its striking dark head, warm orange breast and characteristic white collar, the stonechat makes a lovely addition to a collection of British bird art or wildlife-inspired prints.
 
Inspiration
I first remember spotting a European stonechat perched on top of the bracken while walking in the Lake District. They have such a distinctive call, a sharp, staccato ‘chack-chack’ that’s surprisingly easy to recognise once you know it.
 
Since becoming more tuned into their call, I’ve started spotting stonechats much more often, particularly on the heathlands of Ilkley Moor and across the North York Moors.
 
I love the contrast of their dark heads, warm orange breasts and white neck markings, which inspired the simple, graphic shapes and bold colour of this linocut.
 
How it’s Made
Each print is individually hand-printed in my York studio using orange oil-based ink on soft white acid-free paper. The design is hand-carved into lino and printed by hand in small batches, making every print part of a limited edition.
 
As each print is made by hand, slight variations in ink and texture may occur. These small differences are part of the character of an original linocut and make each print unique.

How to Take Care of Your Original Print
This original print is created using professional, high-quality oil-based inks, along with acid-free paper and mounts. While the inks have excellent lightfastness, I recommend hanging your print out of direct sunlight. Read more on my FAQs page.
