Why linocut is such a rewarding craft
Linocut printing is one of the most accessible forms of printmaking. You don’t need a printing press or expensive equipment. With a few simple tools, a piece of lino and some ink, you can start creating at home.
Many people also find the process calming and absorbing. It’s a chance to slow down, focus, and make something with your hands.

As a self-taught linocut artist, I understand how it feels to start from scratch.
I began with a small set of tools at my kitchen table, figuring things out through trial and error. In this course, I share the techniques and shortcuts I wish I’d known earlier, so you can build confidence from the start.
What you’ll learn step-by-step
In this course, I’ll guide you through the same techniques I teach in my in-person linocut workshops.

2. Mark-making and carving

5. Inking your lino block

3. Creating your design

6. Printing your lino block

You’ll also find a handy troubleshooting guide to support you as you learn. You can work through the lessons at your own pace from home.
Creative support and community
Learning is always easier when you feel supported. You’ll have access to monthly live Zoom Q&A sessions, a private Facebook group, and email support, so you’re never figuring things out alone.

Meet your teacher: Michelle Hughes
Hello, I’m Michelle
I’m a professional linocut artist based in York, North Yorkshire. My work is inspired by the landscapes and wildlife I notice on walks in Yorkshire and across the British countryside.
Before starting my own business in 2016, I spent over 25 years working as a textile, fashion, and homeware designer for high-street retailers and brands.
I came to linocut later, teaching myself from scratch with a simple set of tools. That hands-on experience shapes how I teach today.
Since 2017, I’ve taught hundreds of beginners through workshops and online courses, helping people discover how enjoyable and accessible printmaking can be.
In 2026, I published my first book, Printing Birds and Wildlife in Linocut, sharing my techniques worldwide.
