Making prints for York Open Studios 2019

Only 2 weeks to go! There's a hive of activity in my print studio this month.

I’ve taken one huge leap of faith this month and put all my eggs in one basket. This month I’ve just focused on my printmaking so that I can create more new designs. I usually juggle graphic design work (to pay the bills) with my printmaking.

Here's a sneak peak of the new linocut prints I've been working on.

Ribblesdale, Yorkshire Dales

The print is inspired by a photo of a path that leads from Horton in Ribblesdale to Pen y Gent.

Hutton le Hole, North York Moors

One of my favourite places as I often do yoga retreats just outside the village.

Keld in Swaledale, Yorkshire Dales

Inspired by photos I took on a cycling and camping trip last year.

Hole of Horcum, North York Moors

I've also started a new panoramic landscape of the Hole of Horcum. It's inspired by a photo I took on a crisp January day walking with friends earlier this year.

It may still be at test printing stage when you come.

Roseberry Topping, North York Moors

A new colourway of Roseberry Topping

Plus some new smaller designs of owls, hedgehogs, hares and whales, that I will pop straight into a 5x7 inch picture frame.

This is a video showing my studio after I've printed the first couple of colours.

Greetings cards

My new digitally printed greetings cards have arrived. Robin Hood's Bay • Whitby • Staithes • Yorkshire Dales • Hole of Horcum • Roseberry Topping • Cliffords Tower • Holgate Windmill • Hedgehog • Hare £3 each or 4 for £10 I'll put them on my online shop after York Open Studios. In the meantime pop along or get in touch.

I'm very proud to be taking part in York Open Studios.

I've loved going round all the studios on my bike since I moved to York 10 years ago.

You apply to get in, so it's not a given that you will get in. The 1st year I applied I wasn't successful. This will be my 2nd year of taking part. I didn't set out in life to become an artist, so it still blows my mind that I really am doing this. It’s the most creative I’ve ever felt. I can't wait for this year.

The York Open Studios 'Westie Trail'

Over 17 York Open Studios artists in the Holgate & Acomb area of York. We’ve nicknamed ourselves the ‘Westie’s’. A couple of us have created flyers for ‘Westie Trail’ & ‘Art Detectives’ trail for kids.

I’m loving getting to know local artists better and working collaboratively. 😊

Look out for the #YOSwestie hashtag on social media to see what we've been up to. Or why not tag us when you've visted one of our studios.

Have you got your copy of the YOS directory yet? A whopping 149 amazing artists this year!

See York Open Studios website for the online directory of artists.

I'm looking forward to showing you my new designs and sharing how I create them in my studio.
