York Open Studios 2019 - It’s a wrap!

Thank you so much to everyone that to came my second York Open Studios in York.

With 149 artists taking part it’s been the biggest yet! 420 people popped in to see my linocut prints and studio over the two weekends. I absolutely love explaining how I create my designs. After weeks creating new linocut designs, your thoughts and feedback were most welcome too.

Pop up galley

A few photos from my kitchen dining room turned pop up gallery space.

Linocut carving and printing demo

Each weekend I did a demonstration of how I cut and handprint my linocut designs.

It helps bring to life the way I make my prints and perhaps it also shows that it doesn’t always go right first time! As you can see from the photos these were very popular.

YOS little helpers

I could not have done York Open Studios without my ‘YOS little helpers’. Moral support, sugar fixes, many cups of tea and coffee, loo breaks, balloon blowing. sign making, display rejigging and cake baking help to name but a few.

So a huge thank you to Mike Pringle, Shelia Mckeever, John Lewis, Helen King, Tina Abbott, Nicola O’Keffee and Helen Reynolds.

YOS organisers

It goes without saying that York Open Studios wouldn’t be what it is without the volunteers that make it happen. So a huge shout out to them.

YOS artists

Being part of the York creative scene is still fairly new to me. There’s so much talent out there and everyone is so friendly and supportive to each other.

YOS westies

(York Open Studios artists in the Holgate & Acomb area of York)

I love being part of the York Open Studios ‘Westie Trail’. Did it help you navigate the area and discover new artists close by?

Adele kindly hosted a celebratory drink together at the end of the last day.

York Press

Thank you Charles Hutchinson for the York Press editorial.

Did someone say cake?

I hope you got to try some.

The first weekend my neighbours, from the 1st Holgate scouts, had a brilliant weekend fundraising for them to go to the European Scout Jamboree.

Thank you to Nicola O’Keffee from O’Crumbs for baking her delicious signature carrot cakes.

Thank you to everyone who popped into the West Bank Park pop up cafe. They made £165 profits on the Sunday. All money raised goes back into the park.

Inspiring thoughts and drawings!

There’s something magical about kids drawings. So how lovely to have them in my visitors book.

Behind the scenes

Two weeks with half of the kitchen in the hallway, making bunting and what was going to be a papier mache 'balloon'.

Here today gone tomorrow

Well 5pm on the last day actually. This set of linocuts, Whitby Steps, Staithes and Robin Hood's Bay went off to a new home.

So I filled the gap with a set of Yorkshire Dales linocuts.

New linocut designs

I've created lots of new limited edition linocut designs for York Open Studios. I’m in the process of updating my website and online shop.

In the meantime if there is anything you are interested in please get in touch. I usually have examples of my print collection framed or mounted in my studio if you would like a closer look.

Thank you again for helping make my second York Open Studios a success.
