Friday 12 June 2026 - Introduction to linocut print workshop
Although I’m taking a summer break from teaching workshops to focus on creating my own work, when one of my customers emailed me to ask if I would teach a linocut workshop over the summer as a surprise birthday gift for a friend's 60th birthday, I couldn’t say no. 😊 We all had a fabulous day!
Rachel, Tracy and Sarah came to York for a long weekend to join the workshop and explore the city. Sarah created a linocut print of poppies and seed heads. Rachel carved a botanical linocut and printed it in two colourways. Tracy carved a linocut print inspired by Antony Gormley's sculptures on Crosby Beach near Liverpool.

“I attended Michelle’s beginners' workshop with two friends. We started the day looking at the wonderful studio prints and were very excited. Michelle made us feel very welcome and gave clear instructions and advice. We created our drawings and were shown how to use the tools and the inks. Friday 31 July 2026 - Introduction to linocut print workshop
A fabulous creative day teaching my beginners linocut print workshop. Elaine created a print of her cat; Jean's print was inspired by a photo of the nasturtiums in her garden, and she plans to hand-colour the flowers orange at home. Alex’s print was inspired by a photo she took on holiday in Florence, Italy, and Vanessa carved a linocut of flowers in a glass vase.

James carved a dragon fly design from his sketch and photo. Tina created a print of St Mary’s lighthouse near Whitley Bay. Milena carved a print based on her ‘Can of Worms’ drawing, and Fiona created a lino print of a cottage by the sea.

About the author
Michelle Hughes is a North Yorkshire landscape artist. Much of her work depicts the Yorkshire landscape, including the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, as well as the Yorkshire coast.
Michelle loves exploring the British countryside by bike or on foot, camera in hand, capturing ideas for her next prints. Back in her garden studio, Michelle creates simple but stylised silhouettes based on her photographs and carves these shapes into lino. She hand prints with an etching press, using oil-based inks to create tonal blocks of colour.
Michelle’s original linocut prints are limited editions.
