I'll add photos from each workshop as I teach my beginners' linocut workshops through the autumn. If you’d like to learn how to make a linocut print, see my linocut workshops and online courses page for links to each course and workshop.

Friday 25 September 2026 - Introduction to linocut print workshop

Lizzie created a nature-themed linocut print, Sara carved an apple linocut, Tricia created a snowdrop print, and Rob’s print was inspired by photos of a folly at Castle Howard.

“Loved it. Very relaxing, fun and very productive.”

“A brilliant introduction to Lino Printing techniques and concepts. A good balance of theory and demonstrations with plenty of hands-on, resulting in a finished piece.”

“Really absorbing and enjoyable. Michelle is a great teacher, with the right mix of support and a bit of challenge. Lovely to see the process and everybody else’s prints too. Lovely Studio space to work in.”

“Hands-on, friendly, practical course. Very comfortable doing something for the first time. Enjoyable and satisfying.”

Friday 26 September 2026 - Introduction to linocut print workshop

Sophie’s print was inspired by her dad's sculpture of a girl at sea. Jamie carved a detailed linocut of a shop in a bottle. Sally and Madeline used a variety of mark-making techniques to create botanical linocut prints.

“A wonderful creative day to unwind and reclaim a bit of creativity!”

“Small group of four. Michelle gave excellent tuition regarding the tools, cutting methods, ideas for the print, how to ink the blocks, etc. Very encouraging. I enjoyed cutting the line of blocks best. I was delighted to see my print!”

“Rewarding. Michelle takes people through all the stages of the process. Suggestions about if we wanted to pursue it further at home.”

About the author

Michelle Hughes is a North Yorkshire landscape artist. Much of her work depicts the Yorkshire landscape, including the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, as well as the Yorkshire coast.

Michelle loves exploring the British countryside by bike or on foot, camera in hand, capturing ideas for her next prints. Back in her garden studio, Michelle creates simple but stylised silhouettes based on her photographs and carves these shapes into lino. She hand prints with an etching press, using oil-based inks to create tonal blocks of colour.

Michelle’s original linocut prints are limited editions.
