Multi-colour jigsaw linocut print workshops - Summer 2025

Some photos from each of my multi-colour linocut printing workshops through the summer. I'll add photos from each workshop as I teach them.

Saturday 24 May 20205 -  Jigsaw linocut print workshop

A fun, creative day yesterday making multi-coloured linocut prints using the jigsaw method. We used Essdee Soft Cut lino and Hawthorn’s oil-based inks.

Charlotte carved a botanical design, cutting it into four pieces to ink up in three colours.

Fiona created a linocut print of some of her favourite trees in a hay field. Kay created a linocut print of Whitby Abbey in three colours. Mary’s design of a stag in the woods created a puzzle for how to create it for both of us, but once worked out, the design worked brilliantly.

“Fun and friendly atmosphere. Great teacher, allows freedom in design but guidance when needed.”
“A fun and fascinating day making a beautiful lino print in a supportive and informative environment.”
“A brilliant day spent in Michelle’s workshop in York, learning how to design, cut and print a jigsaw linocut print. Her teaching style is very relaxed and supportive, and we all produced an amazing standard of print to take home.”
“Absolutely fantastic! Really lovely, relaxed atmosphere (until the silent carving starts), but a professional piece of art by the end. :-) “

My jigsaw workshops are fully booked for summer. Email me to join my cancellation or autumn waitlist.

There are just two places left for this summer’s introduction to linocut workshop.

About the author

Michelle Hughes is a North Yorkshire landscape artist. Much of her work depicts the Yorkshire landscape and Yorkshire coast, including the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors.

Michelle loves exploring the British countryside by bike or on foot, camera in hand, capturing ideas for her next prints. Back in her garden studio, Michelle creates simple but stylised silhouettes based on her photographs, and hand carves these shapes into lino. She hand prints with an etching press, using oil-based inks to create tonal blocks of colour.

Michelle’s original linocut prints are limited editions.
